LONG CALL SPEECH

My Lord,

It is my great pleasure to introduce the Petitioner, CHE AIDIL ERFAN BIN CHE AFERO.

  1. The Petitioner was born on 3rd March 2000 in Kuala Lumpur and is the first child of Mr. Che Afero bin Che Amdan and Mrs. Zalifah Binti Mohd Ropick – who are here with us today. After completing his secondary school at MRSM Kuala Kubu Bharu, the Petitioner proceeded to read law at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

  2. Since high school, the Petitioner has been deeply impressed by the eloquence of great orators all around the globe, noting that few of them come from legal backgrounds. The Petitioner is also motivated by relentless movements against injustice and abuse of power, recognizing how such actions can tarnish a country's reputation on the global stage. These are the reasons that inspired the Petitioner to pursue studies in law school and solidify his determination to become a lawyer.

  3. The Petitioner has also strived to become an orator since school, participating in various Malay public speaking competitions and winning several of them. He was actively involved in debate competitions at high school and was one of the Malay debaters at IIUM, where he was the runner-up in Debat Perpaduan 2020.

  4. Upon completion of his studies at IIUM, the Petitioner commenced his pupillage in Messrs. The Chamber of Shamsul Qamar (CSQlaw) under the tutelage of Mrs. Wan Sarimah Wan Husain and later with Mr. Shamsul Qamar.

  5. During his pupillage, the petitioner assisted CSQlaw with the winding-up process and objected to the Fortuna Injunction filed by the companies that were involved in an alleged fraudulent investment scheme. He observed that numerous victims of this investment scheme were deeply distressed, financially and emotionally, and saw their lawyer as a saviour. This experience taught the petitioner that this notable profession is not about generating lucrative profit, but rather helping unfortunate and impecunious people seek and uphold their rights.

  6. Today, the Petitioner wishes to take this opportunity to express his heartfelt gratitude to his family. He would like to thank his parents and siblings for their perpetual support and encouragement, without which he would not have achieved any of the milestones in his life. His parents always provide the utmost support for his involvement with youth movements and constantly push him to achieve great heights in life.

  7. The Petitioner would like to thank his pupil master, Mr. Shamsul Qamar, for providing him with opportunities, guidance and exposure to various areas of law throughout his pupillage.

  8. The Petitioner wishes to thank all his lecturers, especially Prof. Norhashimah, Prof Ainul Jariah, Dr. Norjihan and Pak Iqbal for their tireless teachings at IIUM.

  9. The Petitioner would like to specially thank his friends in MRSM, IIUM, Kelab Debat Bahasa Melayu (KDBM), seniors in Persatuan Kebangsaan Pelajar Islam Malaysia (PKPIM) and friends in Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia for their unwavering support throughout his journey.

  10. The Petitioner also would like to thank all his colleagues at CSQlaw, especially Mrs. Velary Velayathan for making his experience there a memorable one.

  11. Finally, the Petitioner is also extremely grateful to Mr. Wan Anwar Wan Ibrahim, his mover today who has kindly agreed to take time out of his very busy schedule to move his call.

  12. Yang Arif, I believe that the Petitioner is a fit and proper person to be admitted and enrolled as an Advocate and Solicitor of this Honourable Court. I believe all the Petitioner’s papers are in order and that my learned friends from the Attorney General’s Chambers, the Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee respectively have no objections to this motion.

I pray that the petitioner, CHE AIDIL ERFAN BIN CHE AFERO be admitted and enrolled as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.

I hereby seek this Honourable Court’s leave for the Petitioner’s pupil-master, Mr. Shamsul Qamar to robe the Petitioner.

-        THE END    -
